Abraham Ancer was born on February 27, 1991, in McAllen, Texas, and holds dual American and Mexican citizenship. He was raised in Reynosa, Mexico. He attended Sharyland High School in Mission, Texas. Ancer played college golf at Odessa College, where he was a first-team All-American. He then transferred to the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 2013 with a degree in General Studies. At the University of Oklahoma, he secured two wins in his first year and maintained the second-lowest scoring average in the university’s history.
Ancer turned professional in 2013. His early career included significant achievements on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour), where he finished runner-up at the Brasil Champions in March 2015 and won the Nova Scotia Open in July 2015. These performances led him to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2016 season. After a challenging rookie year on the PGA Tour, he returned to the Web.com Tour in 2017, securing five top-5 finishes, including three runner-up placements, which allowed him to regain his PGA Tour card for the 2018 season.
In 2018, Ancer achieved a 5-stroke victory at the Emirates Australian Open. His career progression continued with a notable win at the 2021 World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, marking his first PGA Tour career victory. He joined LIV Golf in June 2022, where he has recorded an individual win at the 2024 LIV Golf Hong Kong and contributed to a team trophy win in Bangkok. In February 2023, he won the PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour. Ancer has represented Mexico in national teams, including the 2019 Presidents Cup and the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
