Born on May 11, 1992, in Mumbai, India, Adah Sharma demonstrated an early interest in performing arts. Raised in a Tamil Brahmin family, her father, S. L. Sharma, was a commandant in the merchant maritime power, and her mother, Sheila Sharma, is an Indian classical dancer and mallakhamba yoga practitioner. Adah received her initial education at Auxilium Convent in Mumbai and pursued Psychology through correspondence. A skilled gymnast, she began dancing at the age of three, completing her Kathak graduation from the Natraj Gopi Krishna Kathak Dance Institute in Mumbai. She also studied salsa, jazz, and ballet, and is proficient in belly dancing and the Indian martial art Silambam. Adah is fluent in Tamil, English, Marathi, and Hindi.
Her acting career began after facing initial rejections due to her curly hair and perceived young age. Sharma secured her debut lead role in the 2008 Hindi horror film “1920,” which became a commercial success. Her portrayal of a possessed woman garnered critical acclaim, earning her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut nomination. Following this, she took on roles in films like “Phhir” (2011) and “Hum Hai Raahi Car Ke” (2013). In 2014, she made her Telugu debut in Puri Jagannadh’s romance “Heart Attack” and appeared in the Hindi film “Hasee Toh Phasee” alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra, both of which achieved commercial success. Her performance in “Heart Attack” was particularly noted, with critics praising her natural acting ability.
Sharma continued to diversify her portfolio, featuring in the Telugu family drama “S/O Satyamurthy” (2015) and her first Kannada project, “Rana Vikrama” (2015), both financial successes. “S/O Satyamurthy” notably became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films. She also starred in the romantic comedy “Subramanyam for Sale” (2015), receiving positive reviews. Her subsequent projects included the romantic comedy “Garam” (2016), the acclaimed thriller “Kshanam” (2016), and her Tamil debut with a special appearance in “Idhu Namma Aalu” (2016). In 2017, she took on the female lead role of an inspector in “Commando 2,” an average-grossing action film. In 2023, she starred in the lead role of “The Kerala Story,” which became the ninth-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, followed by “Bastar: The Naxal Story” (2024).
