Elizabeth Henstridge

Elizabeth Henstridge was born on September 11, 1987, in Sheffield, England. She pursued her education in Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a first-class degree. Following this, she refined her acting skills at the East 15 Acting School in Loughton, Essex. Her early career included an appearance in the short film ‘Easy Under the Apple Bough’ in 2010 and ‘And the Kid’ in 2011. She made her television debut in 2011 as Emily Alexander in the British soap opera ‘Hollyoaks’, appearing in 3 episodes. Henstridge then moved to Los Angeles to further her career, swiftly landing roles in various projects. This progression laid the groundwork for her breakthrough role, establishing her presence in both British and American entertainment industries.

Henstridge’s career trajectory saw a significant turning point in 2012 when she was cast as Jemma Simmons in the ABC superhero action-drama series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, a role she held from 2013 to 2020 spanning 136 episodes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her performance in the episode “4,722 Hours” in 2015 garnered particular critical acclaim, with The Atlantic naming it one of the best television episodes of the year due to her central performance. Beyond acting, Henstridge expanded her creative contributions by stepping into directing, making her directorial debut with an episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ titled “As I Have Always Been” in 2020. Her directing credits further include three episodes of ‘Superman & Lois’ between 2022 and 2024, and an episode of ‘Gotham Knights’ in 2023. She also directed the short film ‘Air’ in 2023.
