Aidan Joseph Bernardi Hutchinson was born on August 9, 2000, in Plymouth, Michigan. His early athletic career at Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Michigan, showcased his versatility across multiple positions including defensive end, tight end, offensive line, and long snapper. He committed to play college football at the University of Michigan, where his collegiate performance earned him national recognition. As a freshman in 2018, he participated in all 13 games. By his sophomore year in 2019, he started all 13 games, accumulating 68 tackles and 4.5 sacks. His junior year was impacted by a season-ending injury after three games. During his senior season in 2021, Hutchinson set a single-season sack record for Michigan with 14 sacks, demonstrating his defensive capabilities.

His exceptional collegiate career culminated in numerous accolades, including the Ted Hendricks Award, Lombardi Award, and Lott Impact Trophy in 2021. He was named a unanimous All-American and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, finishing as the runner-up. In the 2022 NFL Draft, Hutchinson was selected as the second overall pick by the Detroit Lions, signing a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $35.7 million. His rookie season with the Lions saw him record three sacks in Week 2, a franchise rookie record. He also secured his first career interception against Aaron Rodgers and a second against Daniel Jones. Hutchinson continued his strong performance into the 2023 season, where he recorded four tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a recovery in Week 3, earning NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. By Week 17, he registered three sacks against the Dallas Cowboys, marking his second consecutive season with a multi-sack game. He finished the season with 11.5 sacks, 51 total tackles, an interception, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, leading to his first Pro Bowl selection. In the 2024 season, Hutchinson sustained a leg injury in Week 6, fracturing both his tibia and fibula, which required surgery. Despite the injury, the Lions exercised the fifth-year option on his contract, reflecting his ongoing value to the team.
