Al Shearer was born on August 14, 1977, in Columbus, Ohio. He pursued higher education at Howard University in Washington D.C., where he earned a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. His career in entertainment began in television, where he hosted “Game Room” on BET and served as the DC correspondent for the teen show “Teen Summit.” He later gained recognition as “Hits,” the host of the popular BET series “Hits from the Street.” This early exposure in television provided a foundation for his subsequent work in both hosting and acting.
Shearer’s acting career includes notable appearances in mainstream films. In 2001, he played the character “I Need Money” in the film “How High.” He followed this with a role as a Bar Customer in “Honey” in 2003. A significant milestone in his filmography came in 2006 when he portrayed Nevil Shed in the Disney blockbuster “Glory Road.” This film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, brought him wider theatrical recognition. Concurrently with his film work, Shearer also became a prominent face on MTV’s hidden camera show “Punk’d,” working as an undercover agent in eight episodes in 2003.
His career also includes various television series and independent projects. In 2008, he appeared in “The Hustle” as Freddy Manning and in an episode of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” as Dale D. Further television credits include “GGN: Snoop Dogg’s Double G News Network” in 2012, “Family Time” in 2014, and “Black Jesus” in 2015. More recently, he starred in “A Stone Cold Christmas” (2018) as Al The Security Guard, “Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History” (2019) as Robert Smalls, and reprised a role in “How High 2” (2019) as I Got Money. Shearer’s diverse roles demonstrate his adaptability across comedic and dramatic productions.
