Alec Mazo

Alec Mazo, born on April 5, 1978, in Gomel, Soviet Union, is a distinguished American investor and former professional dancer. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 12, initially settling in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to San Francisco. His family arrived as refugees with limited resources, and from the age of 16, Mazo managed his parents’ dance school, Genesis DanceSport, which they opened in 1994. He pursued higher education, studying Cognitive Science with an emphasis on Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and later earned an Alfred P. Sloan Masters in Management from Stanford University. This educational background provided him with a foundation in both scientific inquiry and business management.

Mazo gained public recognition as a professional dancer on the reality television series ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ He won the inaugural season in 2005 with celebrity partner Kelly Monaco, marking a significant milestone in his career. His involvement with the show extended to five seasons and four ‘Dancing with the Stars’ tours. Beyond competitive dancing, Mazo performed in various commercial projects, including a commercial for Kay Jewelers and an iPod commercial. He also appeared in films such as ‘Dance With Me’ (1998) and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ (2008), and made television appearances in ‘Heroes’ and ‘CSI: NY.’ Together with fellow dancer Edyta Sliwinska, Mazo produced instructional fitness DVDs, ‘Dancing like the Pros’ and ‘Fitness with the Pros,’ and they co-ran their dance school, Genesis Ballroom, in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Following his extensive career in dance and entertainment production, Mazo transitioned into the investment sector. He is currently a general partner at DGA Capital, where he focuses on capital markets, bringing over 14 years of investment experience to the role (as of 2016 onward). His entrepreneurial ventures also include founding and serving as CEO of Dancing Pros Inc. in 2006, a company specializing in live stage entertainment and television reality formats. During this time, he executive produced a 70-city live stage tour in collaboration with Troika Entertainment. His career trajectory demonstrates a blend of artistic achievement and business acumen, spanning professional dance, media production, and financial investment.
