Alessandro Sciglio is an Italian actor and producer who is best known for his roles in highly-rated TV series in his home country. He has had roles in Tuscan Passion, Tuto puo Succedere, and Bulletproof Heart, as well as the films Un Amore di Gide and the controversial Brigands. Born in Sicily, Sciglio initially took acting lessons in Rome, before relocating to New York, where he attended the Circle in the Square Theatre School – a legendary establishment, whose alumni also includes Kevin Bacon, Benicio del Toro, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Sciglio’s first roles were in television and commercials. However, his resume has expanded over the course of the last two decades to encompass starring television roles, theatre, documentaries, and both short and feature films. He has worked with a number of different directors, including with Pasquale Squitieri on Brigands, a film about highway robbers set in 19th century Italy, which was pulled from Italian cinemas within days of release, and remains unavailable to buy to this day, with some arguing that its censorship is politically motivated.
Besides acting, Sciglio is fluent in Italian, English, and Spanish; he is also a trained circus acrobat. He is an excellent pop singer and has a strong baritone voice which he employs for voiceover work. A keen tennis player, he is also a member of the Italian Tennis Federation.
