Alex Hassell

Alexander Stephen Hassell, born on September 7, 1980, in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, UK, embarked on his acting journey after completing his education at Moulsham High School. He further honed his craft by studying acting for two and a half years at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Hassell is also a co-founder of The Factory Theatre Company, an initiative supported by notable patrons such as Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Mark Rylance, and Emma Thompson.

Hassell’s career began with a television debut in 2001 on an episode of “Queen of Swords.” He has built a diverse filmography, appearing in various films including “Cold Mountain” (2003), “Anonymous” (2011), and “Suburbicon” (2017), directed by George Clooney, where he worked alongside actors like Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. His theatrical background includes significant stage roles, such as Hal in “Henry IV Parts I and II” and Henry in “Henry V” for the Royal Shakespeare Company, showcasing his versatility and classical training.

His television career gained momentum with a major role in the BBC adaptation of “The Miniaturist” in 2017. More recently, Hassell has been recognized for his roles as Translucent in “The Boys” (2019) on Amazon Prime Video, Vicious in Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop” (2021), and Metatron in the final season of the BBC/HBO fantasy series “His Dark Materials” (2022). In 2024, he took on a leading role as Rupert Campbell-Black in the Disney+ adaptation of the novel “Rivals,” working with co-stars such as David Tennant and Aidan Turner. He is married to Emma King, whom he met during their acting training.
