The light-footed and mesmerising Alex Wong is an award-winning dancer, actor and composer best known for being a recurring All Star on the realty TV show, So You Think You Can Dance. He was a semi-finalist on the hit reality TV show, American Idol, and featured in NBC’s TV series, Smash, directed by Steven Spielberg, as well as in Fox’s hugely popular musical-comedy show, Glee.
Born and raised in Canada, Wong began dancing at the age of seven, eventually going on to study at the Goh Ballet Academy in Vancouver. After winning multiple awards in tap and ballet – including two Junior World Titles in Tap and Showdance, the Royal Academy of Dancing Solo Seal, the Audience Choice Award and a Bronze medal in the 2003 Genee International Ballet Competition – in 2004, at the age of 17, he became the first Canadian citizen to win the Prix de Lausanne Apprentice Scholarship in Switzerland. He went on to join the American Ballet Theater Company in New York City, and after that the prestigious Miami City Ballet, where he was eventually promoted to Principal soloist. He then suffered a nasty injury, but after recovering went on to appear in several commercials and modelling jobs, before making his TV debut for Steven Spielberg in Smash. He suffered a second injury to his Achilles, but came back stronger, releasing his first dance single, Crave, and had his Broadway debut in the Disney musical, Newsies, for which he won two Tony Awards. He has gone on to feature in a number of film and TV productions, including The Greatest Showman, with Hugh Jackman, A Million Ways to Die in the West, with Liam Neeson and Charlize Theron, and in the hit Starz mini-series, Flesh & Bone.
