About

Ali Ewoldt was born on October 6, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in Pleasantville, New York, by a Filipina mother and a Euro-American father. Her early career included performing as Princess Jasmine at Disneyland and working at Tokyo Disney. She later began a U.S. tour of ‘Les Misérables’, starting in the ensemble and eventually understudying the role of Cosette before taking on the role. She graduated cum laude from Yale University.

Ewoldt made her Broadway debut in 2006, playing Cosette in the ‘Les Misérables’ revival. She continued to build her career with significant roles in national and international tours, including starring as Maria in the North American and 50th-anniversary international tours of ‘West Side Story’ from 2009 to 2011. In 2015, she appeared in the Broadway revival of ‘The King and I’, where she also played Tuptim in a tour of the production. Her regional theater work includes Luisa in ‘The Fantasticks’ and Maria in ‘West Side Story’ at The Muny.

A significant milestone in Ewoldt’s career occurred on June 13, 2016, when she joined the Broadway company of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ as the first Asian-American actress to star as Christine Daaé, a role she held until 2018. She has also showcased her versatility as a writer and director, notably for ‘Dear Daaé: Backstage at ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ with Ali Ewoldt’ in 2018. Her recent performances include Amalia Balash in ‘She Loves Me’ at Signature Theatre in 2022 and Natasha Rostova in ‘Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812’ in 2024.
