Alison Roman’s debut cookbook, Dining In, published by Penguin Random House in 2017, swiftly established her as a distinctive voice in food writing and garnered widespread acclaim. The following year, a cookie recipe from Dining In achieved significant viral success, becoming known as #TheCookies on Instagram and solidifying her reputation. Roman’s professional trajectory began in 2011 as a freelance recipe-tester at Bon Appétit, where she was eventually promoted to Senior Food Editor before transitioning to a senior role at Buzzfeed Food in 2015. Her unique culinary perspective was honed through early experience as a chef at acclaimed establishments including Sona in Los Angeles, Quince in San Francisco, Milk Bar in New York City, and Pies n Thighs in Brooklyn.
While her New York Times column was put on temporary leave in May 2020, Roman continued to evolve her brand, ultimately departing from The New York Times in December 2020. Demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit, she subsequently launched her own cooking show, Home Movies with Alison Roman, on her YouTube channel in 2021, and is actively developing new series for additional platforms. Expanding her brand into physical retail, Roman opened First Bloom, a curated market, in Bloomville, New York, in 2023. Her innovative approach to food, characterized by relatable recipes and a compelling online presence, continues to resonate with a global audience and positions her at the forefront of contemporary culinary media.
