Aliyah Boston, born on December 11, 2001, in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, developed her basketball skills early, moving to New England at age 12 to pursue competitive play. She attended Worcester Academy in Massachusetts, where she became a McDonald’s All-American and a three-time Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year from 2017 to 2019. Her high school career was marked by leading her team to consecutive New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A championships in 2018 and 2019, averaging 17.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game during her final year. Boston then committed to the University of South Carolina, where she joined a top-ranked recruiting class under coach Dawn Staley.
Boston’s collegiate career at South Carolina from 2019-2023 was highly impactful. In her freshman year, she achieved the program’s first triple-double and the first by any NCAA Division I player in a career debut. She helped lead the Gamecocks to an NCAA national championship in 2022, earning the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player award. Throughout her college years, Boston received numerous accolades, including being a four-time All-America recipient, four-time Lisa Leslie Center of the Year, and two-time National Player of the Year. She solidified her place in the program’s history as the all-time leader in consecutive games started (138), total rebounds (1,493), and double-doubles (82), showcasing consistent performance and leadership.
In 2023, Aliyah Boston was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, a historic moment for both Boston and the franchise. She quickly made an impact, earning WNBA Rookie of the Year in a unanimous vote and being named an AP Rookie of the Year. Boston also distinguished herself by leading the league in field goal percentage (57.8%) as a rookie. Her professional career continued to progress, with multiple WNBA All-Star selections in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and recognition on the All-WNBA Second Team and WNBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2025.
