Ambra Gutierrez, born Ambra Battilana Gutierrez on May 15, 1993, in Turin, Italy, began her career in the public eye early. Her mother, of Spanish and Filipino descent, was a ballerina before becoming a secretary, and her father was a gardener. Growing up with one brother, Ambra started as a beauty-pageant contestant at the age of 14. This early exposure led her to a modeling career, which she officially began at 19, after completing her high school education at ITPG Guarino Guarini School, where she earned a degree in land surveying.
Her career path shifted to advocacy in 2015 when she gained widespread attention for her role in exposing sexual misconduct, specifically involving Harvey Weinstein. After reporting an alleged assault, she collaborated with the NYPD, wearing a wire to record a conversation with Weinstein. This recording, where Weinstein made admissions, became a key piece of evidence published in Ronan Farrow’s 2017 exposé in The New Yorker. Despite initial challenges, including negative press and a temporary halt in modeling jobs, Gutierrez became a prominent voice in the #MeToo movement. She later signed a non-disclosure agreement with Weinstein, which she has stated she did not fully understand at the time but signed to protect herself and her family.
Now based in New York, Gutierrez is a significant figure in advocating for ethical practices within the fashion industry. She serves on the Leadership Council of the Model Alliance, an organization dedicated to creating safe and fair working conditions for models. Her activism extends to collaborating with other organizations such as Eek Media, Safe Horizon, and Humanility. In 2020, she appeared in “Weinstein: In Court” and in an episode of “CNN Newsroom,” discussing her experiences and advocacy. She continues to model, having been featured in GQ Italy and working with brands such as Victoria’s Secret.
