Monank Patel

Monank Dilipbhai Patel was born on May 1, 1993, in Anand, Gujarat, India. He began his cricketing journey playing for Gujarat at the under-16 and under-18 levels. In 2010, Monank received a green card, and by 2016, he permanently relocated to the United States, settling in New Jersey, where he intended to open a restaurant. His focus later shifted back to cricket, leading to his emergence as a key figure in American cricket.

Patel quickly established himself in the American cricketing landscape. In August 2018, he was selected for the United States squad for the 2018–19 ICC World Twenty20 Americas Qualifier, where he was the leading run-scorer with 208 runs in six matches. His consistent performance continued in the 2018–19 Regional Super50 tournament, where he scored the first century by an American batsman in the competition and finished as the leading run-scorer for the United States with 290 runs. These achievements were crucial in his career progression, culminating in his ODI debut for the United States in April 2019 and his T20I debut in March 2019, signifying his full integration into the national team.

Monank Patel’s leadership capabilities became evident when he was appointed captain of the USA team in October 2021. Under his captaincy, the team achieved historic milestones, including a T20I victory against Ireland and a T20I series win over Bangladesh in 2024. During the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, he led the team to a landmark group-stage victory against Pakistan. He has also demonstrated strong performances in franchise cricket, notably in the 2025 Major League Cricket season, where he was the leading run-scorer with 478 runs for MI New York, earning the Bart King Domestic Player of the Tournament award. Over his career, Patel has scored four centuries in international cricket, including three in ODIs and one in T20I, and has accumulated over 3,000 runs representing the USA in more than 100 matches.
