Lawrence Paul Kosilla III, born on October 2, 1981, in White Plains, New York, and raised in Rye, New York, initially pursued a career in finance after earning an economics degree from the University of Virginia. He worked briefly as a natural gas commodities trader on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Dissatisfied with his Wall Street profession, Kosilla left at age 23 to follow his passion for cars. He began his automotive career as a car courier for Cooper Classics in Greenwich Village, where he was responsible for transporting and ensuring the safety of vehicles for movie sets and photo shoots.
In 2004, Kosilla acquired a car wash in Harrison, New York, which he rebranded as The New York Motor Club. Alongside a business partner, he established a driving club operating out of the car wash. His early foray into video content included renting a helicopter to film the motor club’s drives across New York, marking his initial engagement with video production. After selling The New York Motor Club, Kosilla transitioned to mobile detailing, building a notable clientele that included the exotic automobile manufacturer Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. In 2011, he launched AMMO NYC, a company specializing in car detailing products, further solidifying his presence in the automotive care industry.
Simultaneously with founding AMMO NYC, Kosilla hosted “Drive Clean” on the /Drive YouTube Channel for three seasons, gaining significant exposure. In 2012, he launched the AMMO NYC YouTube channel, which has since amassed a large following, showcasing barn find restorations, exotic car detailing, and educational content. A notable achievement in 2016 involved Kosilla being part of a detailing team that spent 138 hours meticulously cleaning a 1997 McLaren F1 GTR LT race car, which subsequently won the “Spirit of the Quail” award at the Quail Concours during Monterey Car Week. In 2020, AMMO NYC established a studio in Connecticut, serving as a hub for detailing operations and content creation for his YouTube channel.
