Anabel Englund was born on September 1, 1992, in New York City and subsequently raised in Los Angeles, California. She comes from a musical family, with her father, Morgan Englund, being an American actor and singer. Her grandparents were director-producer George Englund and Academy Award-winning actress Cloris Leachman. Her great-grandmother Mabel Albertson and great-uncle Jack Albertson were also actors. Englund’s grandmother, Cloris Leachman, influenced her early interest in singing. She began performing at a Christian youth group at age 16 and later became a singer-songwriter for ABC Family, contributing theme songs and other musical content for television shows. During 2010 and 2011, she focused on piano-driven ballads, performing both solo and as part of a duo named Suburban Nightlife.
Her career in electronic music gained momentum in late 2012 when she collaborated with producers Lee Foss and Jamie Jones, and Marc Kinchen (MK) on the song “Electricity.” This track, released through Hot Creations, received recognition within the electronic music community and was featured on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix playlist in January 2013. Following this success, Englund contributed to Hot Natured’s 2013 album, “Different Sides of the Sun,” appearing on three tracks: “Reverse Skydiving,” “Mercury Rising,” and “Emerald City.” “Reverse Skydiving” reached number fifty-six on the Official UK Singles Chart. She also formed the Pleasure State project with Kinchen and Foss, releasing their debut EP “Ghost In the System” in December 2014. In 2014, Englund signed a record deal with Three Six Zero, in partnership with Warner Bros. and Warner/Chappell Music, and a modeling contract with Models 1, indicating plans for a solo album.
In October 2016, Defected Records released her debut solo single, “London Headache.” She also initiated her own event series, Gari Safari, that year. In 2019, Englund signed with MK’s AREA10 imprint, collaborating with Ultra Music, and began releasing several singles. Her single “So Hot” reached number one on U.S. dance radio for eight consecutive weeks in May 2020. She achieved another number one with “Picture Us” in October 2020 on U.S. dance radio and Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. Her debut album, “Messing with Magic,” was released in December 2020, followed by a deluxe edition in May 2021. “Underwater” became her third U.S. dance radio number one in April 2021, and “Waiting for You” marked her fourth in July 2021.
