Andre Johnson

Andre Lamont Johnson, born July 11, 1981, in Miami, Florida, established himself as a dominant force in Football. After a standout college career at the University of Miami, where he was co-MVP of the 2002 Rose Bowl and a BCS national champion in 2001, Johnson was selected third overall in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Standing 6’3” and weighing 229 pounds, he embarked on a 14-season professional career, primarily with the Texans (2003-2014), and later with the Indianapolis Colts (2015) and Tennessee Titans (2016).

Throughout his NFL career, Johnson became an offensive powerhouse, achieving numerous milestones. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler (2005, 2007, 2009-2011, 2013-14) and a four-time All-Pro, earning first-team honors in 2008 and 2009. Johnson led the NFL in receptions twice (2006, 2008) and receiving yards twice (2008, 2009), making him one of only three players to lead the league in receiving yards in back-to-back years. He holds nearly every Texans receiving record, including career receiving yards (13,591), career receptions (1,012), and most seasons leading the team in receptions (10).

Beyond his on-field achievements, Johnson is recognized for his philanthropic efforts. In 2003, he founded the Andre Johnson Foundation, dedicated to supporting children and teens from single-parent homes. Notably, he gained widespread attention for an annual tradition of spending significant amounts on shopping sprees for children in Child Protective Services, demonstrating his commitment to community engagement. After retiring in 2016, Johnson was inducted into the Texans’ Ring of Honor in 2017, becoming the first player to receive this distinction. In 2024, he was selected for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, becoming the first player to begin his NFL career with the Houston Texans and achieve this honor.
