Multi-award-winning English actor Andrew Lincoln has been on quite a journey during his career. After first finding fame in quintessentially British series during the Nineties and early Noughties, he then became the star of one of America’s biggest-ever post-apocalyptic horror franchises: The Walking Dead. He also appeared as Mark in the classic 2003 movie, Love Actually and has acted in TV productions of classics such as Wuthering Heights and The Woman in White. He has won the Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television twice, among other accolades. His recent projects include an appearance in an episode of the acclaimed mini-series, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
Lincoln was born in London but grew up in Hull and then Bath. After training at RADA, his television career began in 1994 with an appearance in an episode of Drop the Dead Donkey. However, his big break came in 1996 when he was cast as “Egg” Cook in This Life, a BBC drama series that captured the essence of its time and became a must-watch programme. After this, his next major was as the lead character in Channel 4’s Teachers, an inventive comedy-drama series that was nominated for six BAFTAs.
Despite this success, Lincoln’s career surged to new heights when he was cast as former sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes — the central protagonist of The Walking Dead. The show became one of the major hits of the 2010s, spawning a franchise and being nominated for countless awards. Lincoln appeared in well over 100 episodes across the show’s 11 seasons and also appeared in one of its spin-offs, Fear the Walking Dead.
