Anne-Marie Rindom, born on June 14, 1991, in Søllerød, Denmark, developed an early interest in sailing, following her family’s tradition. She began sailing at the age of five at Horsens Sailing Club, initially competing in the Europe dinghy class. Her early talent was evident when she secured a gold medal at the World Championships in the Europe class in Brest in 2009. Recognizing her Olympic aspirations, Rindom transitioned to the Laser Radial class. This decision aligned with her goal to compete at the highest level.
Rindom’s Olympic journey commenced at the London 2012 Games, where she finished 13th in the Laser Radial event at the age of 21. This participation provided her with valuable experience and fueled her ambition. She continued to progress, winning the Women’s Laser Radial World Championship in Al Mussanah in 2015. In 2016, at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, she earned a bronze medal in the Laser Radial event, marking a significant achievement in her career. Her dedication and performance led to her being named Rolex World Sailor of the Year in 2019.
The pinnacle of her career came at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics (held in 2021), where she won the gold medal in the Laser Radial class, an accomplishment that followed a dramatic final day of qualification. Looking ahead, Rindom has been selected as the Danish female flagbearer for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony. She also secured another World Championship title in the ILCA 6 class in Mar del Plata in 2024 and a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the Laser Radial, further solidifying her legacy as one of Denmark’s most successful female Olympians.
