About

Anthony Crivello was born on August 2, 1955, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began his acting career in community theatre, earning his Equity Card at age 19 playing Conrad Birdie in “Bye Bye Birdie.” His early career quickly led him to Chicago theatre in 1979, originating a role in “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” This early experience set the foundation for a career that would span Broadway and Hollywood, showcasing his versatility as a performer.

Crivello’s career progression is marked by significant achievements in musical theatre, including his Broadway debut in “Evita” in 1981, where he played Che. He further distinguished himself as an original Broadway cast member of “Les Misérables,” taking on the role of Grantaire before later performing as Javert. A pivotal moment in his career was his performance as Valentin in “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” for which he won Broadway’s 1993 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He later originated the title role in “The Phantom of the Opera: The Las Vegas Spectacular,” performing in over 2,400 shows over six years.

Beyond the stage, Crivello has built a significant film and television presence. His film credits include “Crocodile Dundee II” (1988), “Independence Day” (1996), “Material Girls” (2006), and “Trade” (2007). On television, he has appeared in popular series such as “Seinfeld,” “Frasier,” “CSI: NY,” and in miniseries like “Feud: Betty and Joan” (2017) as director David Lean. He also expanded his professional activities as a writer and producer, with projects like “An Evening with Frankie Bal” and serving as executive producer for documentary films.
