Ashley Michele Greene was born on February 21, 1987, in Jacksonville, Florida. Her parents are Michele Greene and Joseph Lacy Greene, a former U.S. Marine who owns a concrete business. Growing up, Ashley was described as a tomboy and participated in activities like taekwondo, winning several awards. Initially, she considered a career in modeling, but was advised she was too short (5 feet 5 inches) for fashion modeling and should focus on commercials. This led her to acting classes, where she discovered her passion. She graduated from high school early and relocated to Los Angeles at the age of seventeen to pursue acting professionally.
Greene’s early career involved gaining experience through small roles in television shows such as “Punk’d” and “Crossing Jordan,” as well as minor film appearances in “Shrink” and “King of California.” Her significant career breakthrough arrived in 2008 when she was cast as Alice Cullen in “Twilight,” a film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s popular book series. This role launched her into wider public recognition and established her in the entertainment industry. The success of “Twilight” led to her involvement in subsequent films of “The Twilight Saga” franchise, which continued until 2012.
Following her success in “The Twilight Saga,” Greene diversified her filmography with various roles. She starred in films like “Skateland” (2010), “A Warrior’s Heart” (2011), “The Apparition” (2012), and “CBGB” (2013). Her work also includes voice acting, notably as Barbara Gordon/Oracle in the video game “Batman: Arkham Knight” (2015). Beyond acting, Greene has engaged in brand endorsements and received the “Style Icon Award” at Hollywood Life’s Young Hollywood Awards in 2010. She also received an award from PETA for her representation of Avon and their animal testing policies, demonstrating her involvement in advocacy.
