Carol Leifer

Emmy and Golden Globe-winning writer, producer, and stand-up comedian Carol Leifer began her career making a significant impact in stand-up comedy, performing a remarkable 25 times on ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ and receiving mentorship from David Letterman himself. Introduced early in her career by Jerry Seinfeld at New York City’s renowned Comic Strip, Leifer quickly launched a series of acclaimed stand-up specials. These included ‘Carol Doesn’t Leifer Anymore’ (1988), ‘Carol Leifer Comedy Cruise’ (1989), and ‘Carol Leifer: Really Big Shoo!’ (1990). Her comedic prowess further led to ‘Comedy Central Presents Carol Leifer’ in 2003, solidifying her reputation in the stand-up circuit.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Leifer continued to build an impressive resume, contributing her writing talents to the ‘Academy Awards’ for much of the 21st century and the ’69th Annual Tony Awards.’ Her extensive television writing credits during this period include ‘It’s Like, You Know…’ (1999), ‘I’m with Her’ (2003–2004), ‘Rules of Engagement’ (2007), ‘Modern Family’ (2011), ‘Devious Maids’ (2014), ‘Better Late Than Never’ (2016–2018), and ‘A Little Help with Carol Burnett’ (2018). In 2016, she won the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay and Best Narrative Short Film for ‘Writer’s Block.’ Leifer also authored two successful books, ‘When You Lie About Your Age, The Terrorists Win’ (2009) and ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Crying’ (2014), cementing her legacy across multiple comedic platforms. Demonstrating her enduring relevance and talent in the comedy landscape, Leifer’s recent work includes writing for HBO’s critically acclaimed series ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ from 2020 to 2024, and CBS’s ‘B Positive’ from 2020 to 2022. Most recently, she joined the writing team for the 2024 season of Max’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning comedy series ‘Hacks’, further solidifying her position as a sought-after voice in contemporary television comedy.
