Ashley Storrie

Ashley Jane Storrie was born on April 19, 1986, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Sean Storrie and comedian Janey Godley. Her early life included living in Glasgow, where her parents managed The Weavers Inn. She attended Laurel Bank School and later Hutchesons’ Grammar School. Storrie’s performing career began at a young age, including an appearance in a Ken Loach-directed advertisement for Fairy at age four. In 1997, she featured in the short film ‘Wednesday’s Child’ and made her Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut in 1999 with ‘What Were You Doing When You Were 13?’. She later co-wrote and starred in the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe show ‘Square Street’ with her mother, and from 2009, produced a podcast with Godley.

Storrie’s career expanded significantly with her work in radio and television. Since 2018, she has hosted ‘The Ashley Storrie Show’ on BBC Radio Scotland, a late-night music and chat program. She has also contributed to BBC Radio 4’s ‘The News Quiz’ and BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Breaking the News’. In 2016, Storrie gained online recognition for viral sketch videos like ‘If Harry Potter Was Scottish’, which garnered millions of views. Her stand-up comedy addresses topics such as mental health and women’s issues, using humor to foster connection. From 2019 to 2020, she co-presented the BBC Scotland television show ‘Up For It’. In 2020, she was recognized as the Scottish Comedy Awards winner for best radio comic. From 2023 to 2024, she recounted her life story in the BBC Radio 4 comedy show ‘What’s the Story, Ashley Storrie?’, which has been recommissioned for a second series.

A significant milestone in Storrie’s career is the co-creation of the BBC Three comedy series ‘Dinosaur’ with Matilda Curtis. Storrie also stars as Nina, an autistic palaeontologist, in the series, which aired six episodes in April 2024. This role and her writing for the show earned her two BAFTA Scotland awards in 2024: Best Writer – Film/Television (shared with Matilda Curtis) and the Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen. On a personal note, Storrie was diagnosed as autistic later in life, a topic she has openly discussed and integrated into her creative work, particularly in ‘Dinosaur’. The series has been renewed for a second season, signaling its critical and popular success.
