Asia O’Hara

Antwan Mason Lee, known professionally as Asia O’Hara, was born on July 7, 1982, in Grand Prairie, Texas. She developed her performance skills early, participating in band, color guard, and theater during high school. Her drag career began in the early 2000s after winning an amateur contest in Dallas. She adopted the stage name Asia from a family member and O’Hara from her drag mother, Josephine O’Hara. Over the years, she built a reputation as a highly awarded drag queen, accumulating numerous regional and national titles in drag pageantry systems. Beyond performing, O’Hara is also a costume designer, owning her company, Helen of Seven, which creates custom designs for various clients, including dance teams, color guards, ice skaters, and other drag performers. She has also worked as a makeup artist and behind the scenes planning and promoting preliminary competitions.

O’Hara gained widespread recognition competing on Season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2018, finishing in fourth place. Her appearance on the show solidified her status as a drag icon, leading to participation in several domestic and international tours such as Werq the World and Christmas Queens. She has also been a staple cast member of RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!, a residency show in Las Vegas, since January 2020, and starred in the accompanying VH1 miniseries RuPaul’s Drag Race: Vegas Revue. In addition to her stage and television presence, O’Hara has released two singles, “Queen for Tonight” in 2018 and “Crown Up” in 2019, showcasing her musical talents. She also currently owns the Miss Gay Texas pageant, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to the drag community.

Her career highlights include winning Miss Gay America in 2016, a prestigious national title that earned her the moniker “Symbol of Excellence.” Throughout her career, O’Hara has maintained close friendships with other notable drag artists, including Alyssa Edwards and members of the Davenport drag family. Despite a notable incident involving live butterflies during the RuPaul’s Drag Race finale, O’Hara has consistently shown resilience and dedication to animal welfare, pledging volunteer hours to the ASPCA. She continues to be a prominent figure in the drag and LGBTQ+ communities, leveraging her platform for advocacy and entertainment.
