About

Isabella May Ramsey, born on September 25, 2003, in Nottingham, England, began their acting journey at a young age through local amateur theatre groups like Stagecoach Theatre Arts. At age 10, Ramsey joined The Television Workshop in Nottingham, an institution that provided crucial training and support for early auditions, including their debut role. This foundation allowed them to balance education with their burgeoning career, eventually transitioning to an online school to accommodate their acting commitments. Their early exposure to acting, coupled with a dedicated approach to their craft, set the stage for a notable career in the entertainment industry.

Ramsey made their professional acting debut in a breakthrough role as the young noblewoman Lyanna Mormont in Season 6 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” (2016). Initially intended for a single scene, their performance was expanded due to critical and fan acclaim, solidifying their presence across three seasons until 2019. Following this, Ramsey took on the titular role of Mildred Hubble in the CBBC series “The Worst Witch” (2017–2019), for which they received the Young Performer BAFTA in 2019, showcasing their ability to lead a children’s series effectively. They also lent their voice to the acclaimed animated series “Hilda” (2018–2023) for Netflix, further demonstrating their vocal talent and range.

Ramsey’s career continued to evolve with significant film roles, including portraying Lorna Luft in the biopic “Judy” (2019) and a leading role alongside Jesse Eisenberg in “Resistance” (2020). A pivotal moment came with their casting as Ellie Williams in HBO’s flagship series “The Last of Us” (2023–present), a role that has garnered widespread critical praise and multiple award nominations, including two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Their performance in Lena Dunham’s feature film “Catherine, Called Birdy” (2022), where they played the titular character, also earned them a Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination. In addition to acting, Ramsey uses their platform for advocacy, notably as an ambassador for Greenpeace and Young Minds, and supporting causes like the Palestinian cause and trans rights.
