Jon Scheyer

Jon Scheyer was born on August 24, 1987, in Northbrook, Illinois. He excelled in basketball from an early age, leading Glenbrook North High School to an Illinois Class AA state championship in 2005. His high school career was marked by significant achievements, including scoring 3,034 career points, the fourth-highest in Illinois high school history, and being named Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2006. He was also a McDonald’s All-American and a two-time Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year. Scheyer’s reputation included being an exceptional three-point shooter and a consistent performer in high-pressure games.

Scheyer continued his career at Duke University from 2006 to 2010, where he became one of the most versatile players in school history. As a two-time team captain, he helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2010 NCAA National Championship. During his senior season, he averaged 18.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, also setting an ACC single-season record for minutes played with 1,470. He is the only player in Duke history to record at least 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, 250 three-pointers, and 200 steals. After college, Scheyer played professionally for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Gran Canaria.

Following his playing career, Scheyer transitioned into coaching, joining the Duke men’s basketball staff in 2013 as a special assistant. He was promoted to assistant coach in 2014 and then to co-associate head coach in 2018. On June 4, 2021, Scheyer was named the 20th head coach in Duke University’s basketball history, succeeding Mike Krzyzewski. In his first three seasons as head coach, he has led the Blue Devils to an ACC Tournament title (2023), achieved an undefeated home record in his debut season, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight (2024), and the Final Four (2025). He also earned the 2024-25 John McLendon National Coach of the Year Award.
