Born in London in 1971, Bill Leslie began his broadcasting career in radio with Capital Gold. He initially served as a football reporter and secondary commentator. Following Jonathan Pearce’s move to the BBC in 2002, Leslie took on the lead commentary role at Capital Gold. His first television commentary experience came in 2002, covering the UEFA Under-21 Championship for Channel Five.
In 2003, Leslie transitioned to Sky Sports, where he began working on their UEFA Champions League coverage. The following year, in 2004, he played a role in the launch of “Football First,” commentating on the inaugural “Game of the Day” between Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic. His Premier League debut for Sky Sports occurred during the 2004–2005 season, covering a match between Birmingham City and Aston Villa on the PremPlus service. Since 2006, after Ian Crocker’s departure, Leslie has been Sky’s primary commentator for the Football League. He has also been responsible for Sky Sports’ Scottish football output, including all Scotland home matches and Scottish Cup fixtures shown live. His notable assignments include the 2007 Scottish Cup Final and the Championship Play-Off Finals from 2007 to 2016. He also contributed to the commentary team for the UEFA Under-21 Championships in 2007, and has consistently covered Celtic’s UEFA Champions League matches, with the exception of those involving Manchester United.
