Born on February 13, 1994, in Fairport, New York, Blaze Riorden developed an early interest in lacrosse, initially playing as an attackman before transitioning to a dual role of goalie and attackman during his high school years. He earned three varsity letters in both lacrosse and football while attending Fairport High School, where he secured two Section V state championships. Riorden committed to the University at Albany, pursuing opportunities to play both in goal and on man-up offense.
At the University of Albany, Riorden started 18 games as a freshman, achieving 13 wins, the second-highest in program history at the time. He was recognized with a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team and was named second-team all-league. Throughout his collegiate career, he consistently led the America East in save percentage, saves per game, and goals against average, earning first-team all-conference honors multiple times. In his senior year, Riorden set Albany’s career saves record with 849 and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, receiving third-team All-American and America East Defensive Player of the Year accolades. A notable play during his college career was a coast-to-coast goal against Cornell in the NCAA Tournament, which garnered national attention and an ESPY Award nomination for Best Play.
Following his college career, Riorden was drafted 51st overall by the Rochester Rattlers in the 2016 MLL Draft. He later joined the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) as part of Chaos Lacrosse Club, where he gained wide recognition. He has consistently been celebrated for his exceptional skills, earning multiple Oren Lyons Goalie of the Year awards and the Jim Brown Most Valuable Player award in the PLL. Riorden also plays box lacrosse as a forward for the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League, where he was named captain ahead of the 2023-24 season, demonstrating his versatility and leadership across different forms of the sport. He has also represented the United States in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, earning bronze medals.
