Brad Sham, widely recognized as ‘The Voice of the Dallas Cowboys,’ became the lead play-by-play announcer for the team in 1984, a pivotal role he has maintained for several decades. After graduating from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism in 1970 and completing his service in the Army National Guard, Sham began his distinguished broadcasting career in 1976, joining KRLD radio in Dallas. He initially served as a color analyst for the Cowboys alongside Verne Lundquist and held the role of Sports Director at KRLD from 1976 to 1981. During a three-season absence from the Cowboys (1995-1997), Sham expanded his expertise by calling Texas Rangers baseball games with Eric Nadel.
Sham also broadcast 26 Cotton Bowl Classics, contributed to the Big 12 Network and ESPN, and covered Major League Soccer for the Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas) and North American Soccer League for the Dallas Tornado. He was part of the broadcasting team for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. In 2003, Sham authored ‘Dallas Cowboys: Colorful Tales of America’s Greatest Teams’ and continues to contribute weekly columns to dallascowboys.com. Sham’s unparalleled contributions to sports broadcasting have been recognized with 11 NSSA Texas Sportscaster of the Year awards.
An esteemed member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, he was proudly inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.
