Brandon Mcmillan

Brandon McMillan was born on April 29, 1977, in Trenton, New Jersey. He grew up in an environment surrounded by a wide variety of wild animals, as both his father and uncle worked as exotic animal trainers in the entertainment industry. This early exposure provided him with extensive knowledge and experience in animal behavior and training from a young age. At 18, McMillan moved to Los Angeles to join his uncle’s animal training company, which provided animals for various film and television productions. His personal experience in front of the camera began in 2009, when he hosted the Animal Planet series *NIGHT*, which focused on the nocturnal behaviors of dangerous animals.

In 2010, McMillan established a dog boarding and training facility near Los Angeles. During this period, he specialized in training service dogs and therapy dogs. His clientele included notable individuals such as Ellen DeGeneres, Andy Cohen, Don Cheadle, James Caan, Hugh Hefner, Ronda Rousey, Chris Hardwick, Wolfgang Puck, and Kate Hudson. His work gained further recognition in 2012 when he was discovered by Litton Entertainment. This led to the development of the television series *Lucky Dog*, which premiered on CBS Dream Team in 2013. On the show, McMillan rescued “unadoptable” dogs from city shelters, rehabilitated them through training, and found them permanent homes.

Throughout his career, McMillan has achieved significant milestones, including three Daytime Emmy Awards for *Lucky Dog*: “Best Host in a Lifestyle Series” in 2015 and 2018, and *Lucky Dog* winning “Outstanding Special Class Series” in 2016. He concluded his role as host of *Lucky Dog* after 182 episodes, announcing his departure in October 2020. Beyond his work with dogs, McMillan has hosted *Great White Serial Killer* as part of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, where he investigates shark attacks. He is also the author of “Lucky Dog Lessons: Train Your Dog in 7 Days” (HarperCollins), a self-help book for dog owners, and teaches dog training on MasterClass.
