Brandon Staley

Brandon Staley earned National Coordinator of the Year honors for Division III in 2016 during his tenure as Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach at John Carroll University. This recognition capped a successful collegiate coaching career that began as a Graduate Assistant at Northern Illinois University from 2006 to 2008. Staley then served as Defensive Line and Assistant Special Teams Coach at the University of St. Thomas in 2009, followed by two seasons at Hutchinson Community College, first as Co-Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach in 2010, then as Associate Head Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator, and Linebackers Coach in 2011.

Following his head coaching tenure, Staley joined the San Francisco 49ers for the 2024 season as Assistant Head Coach. In his role with the 49ers, Staley contributed to a formidable defense that ranked eighth in opponent net yards per game and fifth against the pass. Most recently, in February 2025, Staley was appointed Defensive Coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, reuniting him with Head Coach Kellen Moore, who previously served as his Offensive Coordinator with the Chargers. Throughout his distinguished career, Staley has consistently demonstrated an analytical approach to the game, coupled with a deep commitment to player development and strategic defensive schemes, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier NFL coach.
