Briga Heelan

Briga Heelan was born on April 2, 1987, in Andover, Massachusetts, to Kimball Heelan, an actress and teacher, and Kevin Heelan, a playwright. Her early life fostered a strong interest in performing, leading her to attend Walnut Hill School for the Arts. She furthered her education at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music for a year before transferring to the University of Southern California, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009. At graduation, she was recognized with the James B. Pendleton Award for her significant contributions to the USC School of Dramatic Arts. While initially focused on musical theater, Heelan developed a talent for comedy, which she honed at various improvisational schools in Los Angeles, setting the stage for her future career.

Heelan’s television career gained momentum with a breakthrough recurring role on ‘Cougar Town’. This exposure led to opportunities in other Bill Lawrence-helmed projects, including her first starring role in the TBS comedy ‘Ground Floor’ (2013-2015) as Jenny Miller. Her performance on “Ground Floor” garnered critical acclaim, with TV critics praising her as “simply terrific” and “remarkably alive.” She successfully balanced her commitments on ‘Ground Floor’ and ‘Undateable’ (2014-2015), demonstrating her versatility and work ethic. Her career progressed with significant roles in ‘Love’ (2016-2017) and the lead role of Katie Wendelson in Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s NBC sitcom ‘Great News’ (2017-2018), where she played an ambitious news producer.

Heelan continued to expand her television portfolio with guest appearances on popular shows including ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ (2019), ‘Modern Family’ (2019), and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ (2020). From 2020 to 2021, she held a recurring role as Samantha Turner in ‘B Positive,’ appearing in 14 episodes. In 2023, she made her Broadway debut as Cinderella in ‘Once Upon a One More Time’ at the Marquis Theatre, a role she had previously portrayed in its 2021 world premiere in Washington D.C. This marked a return to her musical theatre roots, showcasing her diverse acting capabilities.
