Burt Ward distinguished himself early with remarkable aptitudes, including being recognized as a professional ice skater featured in ‘Strange as It Seems’. He demonstrated significant academic prowess, achieving a top 3% ranking in U.S. math and science tests at UCLA and earning recognition as one of the world’s fastest readers, clocked at 30,000 words per minute with 90% comprehension by the American Medical Society. Having also become one of California’s youngest real estate agents and holding a brown belt in karate, his diverse athletic background was a key factor in October 1965 when he secured the iconic role of Robin in ABC-TV’s new ‘Batman’ series, beating out other contenders.
He maintained a close friendship with Adam West, reuniting for specials such as Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt (2003) and animated movies like Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (2016) and Batman vs. Two-Face (2017). Beyond entertainment, Ward authored his autobiography, Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights, released in June 1995. In 1994, Ward and his wife, Tracy Posner Ward, co-founded Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming large dog breeds.
Ward’s lasting impact on popular culture was further cemented on January 9, 2020, when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
