Mitchell Johnson

Mitchell Guy Johnson was born on November 2, 1981, in Townsville, Queensland. He emerged as a left-arm fast bowler, first noted by Dennis Lillee at the age of 17. Johnson’s career progressed through domestic cricket with teams like Western Australia and eventually to the Australian national team. He made his ODI debut in December 2005 against New Zealand, his T20 debut in September 2007 against Zimbabwe, and his Test debut in November 2007 against Sri Lanka, where he took 4/96.

Throughout his career, Johnson was known for his ability to bowl with significant pace and bounce, often troubling top-order batsmen. A notable period of his career was in 2013-14 during The Ashes series, where he was the leading wicket-taker with 37 wickets at an average of 13.97, including three five-wicket hauls. This performance followed a turbulent period where he had been dropped from the Australian squad. He continued his strong form against South Africa, taking 22 wickets at 17.36. Johnson also contributed with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 96 against South Africa in 2009 and a crucial 88 against India in 2014.

Johnson retired from international cricket in November 2015, going on to play in various T20 leagues. He represented teams such as the Mumbai Indians, Perth Scorchers, Brisbane Heat, Punjab Kings, Hobart Hurricanes, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Key achievements in these leagues include a sensational spell of 3/3 in the 2017 BBL semifinal and a pivotal last over in an IPL final, both contributing to his teams’ victories. His career includes 313 Test wickets, 239 ODI wickets, and 38 T20 wickets, solidifying his position as a significant fast bowler.
