Cake Moss is a drag queen like few others. The self-proclaimed Ratchet Queen of West Hollywood has been a major player on the Los Angeles drag scene for nearly a decade, most notably as one of the hosts of Hard Werk at Micky’s in West Hollywood. As well being in high demand on the live circuit, she has also made several forays into film (most recently in Throuple), has been developing her own pilot show, and has also released several popular singles, including ‘Shade’ (featuring Alaska) and ‘Basketball’ (featuring Music Bear Tony Banks). She can also claim to have danced with Miley Cyrus at the VMAs. Behind the scenes, she is also the Director of Talent Acquisition and Strategic Planning for Beet Cosmetics.
Moss’ art is based around dance, illusion, compassion, and cannabis — an unlikely quartet, perhaps, but she shapes them all into a dazzling spectacle that can be witnessed both live and in her many YouTube dance routine videos. A dancer since her teens, she is well experienced in her artform and is constantly evolving as a performer, a vital skill when working in the capital of the entertainment industry.
Moss was born Sam Spillman in 1990. She wanted to be a dancer and an actor as a child, but her father was having none of it. Unbowed, she continued, eventually coming out during her teens and taking up drag aged 21. Now 10 years into her career, she’s built a great reputation and is always looking to give back — her dream is to be able to provide shelters in Los Angeles where homeless people can have some sleep, get a shower, and apply for jobs on computers.
