Cameron Monaghan

Cameron Monaghan was born in Santa Monica, California, on August 16, 1993. His early career began at the age of three as a child model, appearing on a catalog cover at five and in his first commercial at seven. He further developed his acting skills on stage in local theater productions, including “Stuart Little” and “Winnie-the-Pooh.” Monaghan gained national attention at nine, in 2003, with his role as Winthrop Paroo in the ABC television adaptation of “The Music Man.” He continued to build his resume with a recurring role as Chad on “Malcolm in the Middle” from 2004-2005, which earned him a Young Artist Award for Best Young Television Actor in a Recurring Role.

His career progressed with diverse roles, showcasing his ability to portray complex characters. From 2011 to 2021, Monaghan starred as Ian Gallagher in the Showtime comedy-drama series “Shameless,” a role that garnered him a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Concurrently, from 2015 to 2019, he played the dual roles of Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in the Fox series “Gotham,” embodying characters that served as origin stories for the Joker. Monaghan also expanded into voice acting and motion capture for video games, portraying Cal Kestis in “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” (2019) and its sequel, “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” (2023).

Beyond these notable television roles, Monaghan has appeared in films such as “Click” (2006), “The Giver” (2014) as Asher, and “Paradise Highway” (2022) as Sterling. He is set to appear in “Tron: Ares” (2025) and will also star as Harry Bosch in the upcoming MGM+ series “Bosch: Start of Watch.” Monaghan has a BAFTA Award nomination and two wins out of twelve total nominations, underscoring his contributions to the entertainment industry across various platforms.
