Julio Torres

Emmy-nominated, Peabody-winning, and WGA-winning writer, director, and comedian Julio Torres is celebrated for his unique surrealist approach to comedy and impactful contributions to television and film. After graduating from The New School in 2011, Torres began his professional writing career on ‘The Chris Gethard Show’ from 2015 to 2016. He then joined the esteemed writing staff of ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) in 2016, a tenure that spanned three seasons until 2019. During his time at SNL, Torres distinguished himself by co-writing memorable and critically acclaimed sketches such as ‘Papyrus’ and ‘Wells for Boys,’ contributions that led to four Emmy Award nominations for his work on the iconic sketch comedy series.

Further showcasing his voice acting capabilities, Torres appeared in the critically acclaimed animated film ‘Nimona’ in 2023. Most recently, Torres continued his impactful collaboration with HBO, writing, directing, starring in, and executive producing his latest series, ‘Fantasmas,’ which premiered in 2024. Similar to his prior HBO success, ‘Fantasmas’ was honored with a Peabody Award, reinforcing his reputation for groundbreaking and distinct storytelling.
