Cameron Young was born on May 7, 1997, in Scarborough, New York. His early life was immersed in golf, with his father, David Young, serving as the head professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, and his aunt also working as a teaching professional. He attended Fordham Preparatory School and later Wake Forest University, where he studied Economics and played collegiate golf. During his amateur career, Young achieved significant milestones, including winning the AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic in 2014 and representing the United States in both the Junior Ryder Cup and Junior Golf World Cup. He also became the youngest winner of the Metropolitan Golf Association’s Ike Stroke Play Championship in 2015, successfully defending his title in 2016. In 2017, he made history as the first amateur to win the New York State Open.
Young turned professional in 2019. His professional career saw a rapid ascent. In 2020, he Monday qualified for the Korn Ferry Tour’s Pinnacle Bank Championship, which led to a string of strong finishes and special temporary membership. In May 2021, he secured back-to-back victories on the Korn Ferry Tour, winning the AdventHealth Championship and the Evans Scholars Invitational. These performances earned him a PGA Tour card for the 2021–22 season. His inaugural PGA Tour season was marked by consistent high-level play, including a tied for second place at the Genesis Invitational in February 2022 and a tied for third at the 2022 PGA Championship. He also finished as runner-up in the 2022 Open Championship and was selected for the U.S. team in the 2022 Presidents Cup. His achievements culminated in him being voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the 2021–22 season with 94% of the vote.
In 2023, Young continued his strong performance, finishing runner-up at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and securing a tie for seventh at the Masters Tournament. A notable moment in his career occurred in 2024 when he shot a 59 in the third round of the Travelers Championship, marking the 13th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history. In August 2025, Cameron Young achieved his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship, tying the tournament record with a 22-under 258. This win made him the 1,000th player to win a recognized PGA Tour event. Young has also appeared in the sports documentary series “Full Swing” on Netflix.
