Instinctive shot stopper and Chelsea legend – Carlo Cudicini, is widely regarded as being one of the best ever goalkeepers to play for the London Blues. In his time at Stamford Bridge, Cudicini won the FA Cup and League Cup twice. He also won Chelsea Player of the Year in 2002, showing that he was one of the best keepers in the world at that time. The Italian was famous for his close-range saves, while also possessing fantastic positional sense, know-how, and composure between the sticks.
Starting out at AC Milan, and then trying to find his big break at a number of other top Italian teams, Cudicini was eventually loaned out to Chelsea. This loan move is where Cudicini’s rise to stardom would begin. The Italian made the loan move permanent after showing his cat-like reflexes and becoming the number one goalkeeper for Chelsea. Spending nine successful years at the club he loved, Cudicini eventually moved to Tottenham Hotspur and then played his final games at US super club LA Galaxy.
Cudicini has now returned to his beloved Chelsea. In 2016, Cudicini became a club ambassador and assistant to the new first-team head coach – Antonio Conte. Then in August 2019, Cudicini was appointed technical coach for the players on loan from other clubs. Due to his ongoing ties with Chelsea, Cudicini is literally a living legend at the club, hopefully helping them to once again achieve European and domestic glory.
