Carson James Wentz was born on December 30, 1992, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and moved to North Dakota at the age of three. He attended Century High School in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he excelled in football as both a quarterback and defensive back, as well as playing basketball and baseball. Wentz joined the North Dakota State Bison football team, redshirting his first season in 2011. During his college career, he was part of five consecutive NCAA FCS national championship teams from 2011 to 2015, serving as the starting quarterback for the 2014 and 2015 championship wins. He graduated as valedictorian with a degree in health and physical education and was twice recognized as an Academic All-American.
Wentz was selected second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2016 NFL draft, becoming the highest-drafted FCS player in history. His rookie season saw him set new franchise records for completions and pass attempts. His most successful season came in 2017 with the Eagles, where he earned Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors, leading the team to a top seed before a season-ending injury. Despite the injury, the Eagles went on to win Super Bowl LII. He continued to lead the Eagles to the playoffs in the following two seasons, achieving a franchise record of over 4,000 passing yards in 2019.
Following his tenure with the Eagles, Wentz played for the Indianapolis Colts (2021), Washington Commanders (2022), Los Angeles Rams (2023), and Kansas City Chiefs (2024). In August 2025, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, marking his start as the first quarterback in NFL history to start for six different teams in six consecutive seasons. Throughout his professional career, Wentz has recorded 23,169 passing yards and 158 touchdowns.
