Singer, dancer and actress Chanel Terrero Martínez – known better as just Chanel – wowed the world with her performance at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. The Spanish-Cuban songstress represented Spain and earned the country their best placing in the contest since 1995, finishing in third place with an impressive 459 points.
Originally from Havana, Cuba, Chanel moved to Olesa de Montserrat in Catalonia, Spain when she was three years old. She began ballet, acting and singing classes from a young age, learning from some of Spain’s most renowned choreographers. Her life in the spotlight began in musical theatre at the age of sixteen, and she moved to Madrid where she took part in stage musicals throughout the 2010s including Flashdance, El rey león, El guardaespaldas, West Side Story and Mamma Mia. The multi-talented star also landed various roles on cinema and television, and worked as a dancer for some of the world’s biggest artists including Shakira.
In 2022 she took part in Benidorm Fest, performing the track ‘SloMo’ in a routine choreographed by rising talent Kyle Hanagami, who has also worked with Blackpink, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez. After winning the contest she won the first semi-final and then the final to become the Spanish entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest. Since her impressive performance in Turin, the song topped the Spanish Singles Chart and went on to achieve a triple platinum certification.
