Jon Champion

Jon Champion is a distinguished British sports commentator recognized for his contributions to football broadcasting across major networks. After establishing himself as a prominent voice in sports broadcasting at BBC Sport in the late 1980s, Jon Champion made significant contributions as a football commentator on BBC Radio Five Live from 1992 to 1996. During this period, he covered numerous high-profile events, including the 1994 and 1996 Football League First Division play-off Finals and the 1996 UEFA Champions League Final. Champion expanded his early career by providing commentary for rugby league Challenge Cup games on BBC Television, often handling the network’s televised Sunday matches.

From 2019 to 2022, Champion served as the lead play-by-play commentator for Major League Soccer (MLS) on ESPN and United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) games, often forming a popular commentary duo with Taylor Twellman.
