Randolph Channing Crowder Jr. was born on December 2, 1983, in State College, Pennsylvania. The son of former NFL defensive lineman Randy Crowder, Channing established himself early as a highly regarded linebacker. He attended North Springs High School in Sandy Springs, Georgia, where he earned prep All-America recognition from SuperPrep, PrepStar, and Rivals.com. In his senior year of 2001, he recorded 114 tackles and 7.5 sacks, in addition to rushing for over 800 yards. He was named the North Springs Spartans MVP in 2001 and was recognized by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as one of the top four linebackers in Georgia.
Crowder continued his football career at the University of Florida, committing to play for the Florida Gators after delaying his enrollment due to knee rehabilitation. In 2003, as a freshman, he started in nine of eleven games, leading the nation in tackles by a freshman and totaling 106 tackles for the Gators, along with five tackles for loss and two sacks. He earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2003. As a team captain in 2004, he concluded his college career with 73 tackles, two sacks, and an interception. After his second college season, Crowder was recognized as a first-team All-SEC selection and an ESPN All-American, cementing his status as a top collegiate talent.
His professional journey began when the Miami Dolphins selected him in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. During his six seasons with the Dolphins (2005–2010), Crowder became a reliable starting linebacker, recording 470 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one interception across 82 games. Post-NFL, Crowder has developed a significant career in sports broadcasting and podcasting. He co-hosts “Hochman & Crowder” on 790 The Ticket and 560 WQAM, and co-hosts “The Pivot” podcast alongside Fred Taylor and Ryan Clark. Furthermore, he serves as a panelist on the weekly highlight show “Inside the NFL” on The CW.
