Joe Morris

Joseph Edward Morris was born on September 15, 1960, in Fort Bragg, NC. He distinguished himself in collegiate sports at Syracuse University, where he was a four-year starter and set numerous all-time rushing records, accumulating 4,229 yards. His college career culminated in being an All-American selection and participating in prestigious games like the Blue-Gray, East-West Shrine, and Senior Bowl. Morris entered the NFL as a second-round pick, 45th overall, in the 1982 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. His professional career began with immediate impact, scoring a touchdown on his first rushing attempt.

Morris became a central figure for the New York Giants, notably contributing to their victory in Super Bowl XXI in 1987. During his time with the Giants from 1982 to 1988, he earned two Pro Bowl selections in 1985 and 1986 and was named First-team All-Pro in 1986. His career highlights include leading the league with 21 rushing touchdowns in 1985 and accumulating over 1,000 rushing yards in multiple seasons. He holds several Giants franchise records, particularly in postseason rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns.

After eight seasons, Morris concluded his NFL career with 5,585 rushing yards, 111 receptions for 960 yards, and 52 touchdowns over 110 games. Following his retirement from football, Morris transitioned into other professional endeavors, including real estate and insurance. He was also a part-owner of the New Jersey Red Dogs of the Arena Football League, alongside former teammates Carl Banks and Harry Carson. Joe Morris remains a significant figure in New York Giants history, recognized for his contributions on the field and induction into the New York Giants Ring of Honor.
