Charlene Tilton

Charlene Tilton was born on December 1, 1958, in San Diego, California. She began her acting career with early roles in television series such as “Happy Days” and “Eight Is Enough.” Her film debut was alongside Jodie Foster in “Freaky Friday” (1976), followed by a cameo in John Milius’s “Big Wednesday” (1978). Her breakthrough arrived in 1978 with the role of Lucy Ewing in the CBS prime-time soap opera “Dallas.” This role as the vixenish granddaughter of John “Jock” Ewing Sr. brought her significant recognition, securing her place in television history from 1978 to 1985 and again from 1988 to 1990. During the peak of “Dallas'” popularity, Tilton’s character, Lucy Ewing, garnered widespread attention, including her 1981 televised wedding which drew 65 million viewers, and she graced over 500 magazine covers. Her early career also saw her explore singing, contributing vocals to a 1978 episode of “Dallas” and releasing the dance-pop single “C’est la Vie” in 1984, which achieved success in several European countries. Beyond acting, Tilton also appeared on game shows like “Family Feud” and “Hollywood Squares,” and hosted an unsold pilot for a “Match Game” revival in 1996.

Following her initial run on “Dallas,” Tilton diversified her career with roles in films such as “Border Shootout” (1990) and “Problem Child 2” (1991). She also became known for her appearances in commercials for the Abdominizer workout equipment in the 1990s, even satirizing this in an episode of “Married… with Children” (1993). Tilton continued to take on various acting projects, including roles in satirical comedies like “The Silence of the Hams” (1994) and “Superhero Movie” (2008), as well as independent films. In 2001, the Young Artist Foundation recognized her contributions with the Former Child Star “Lifetime Achievement” Award for her role as Lucy Ewing. Her engagement with reality television included participating in the British ice-skating show “Dancing on Ice” in 2012. Tilton reprised her iconic role as Lucy Ewing in TNT’s “Dallas” revival series from 2012 to 2014, demonstrating the enduring impact of her most famous character. She has also appeared in contemporary productions, including the ABC comedy series “The Middle” (2015) and several Lifetime and Hallmark Channel films, showcasing her continued presence in the entertainment industry.
