Chase William Dodd, born on April 5, 2003, in Long Beach, California, has established himself as a prominent figure in American water polo. His athletic career began at Huntington Beach High School, where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in both water polo and swimming. During his high school years, Dodd achieved significant recognition, including being named first-team D1 All-CIF-SS in water polo in 2019, first team All-Sunset League in 2019 and 2020, and Sunset League Co-MVP in 2020. He was also honored as Orange County Player of the Year in 2020 and was featured on the Daily Pilot Water Polo Dream Team in 2019. In swimming, he was an All-American in 2018 and 2021, and an All-Sunset League MVP in 2021, holding school records in the 100-yard backstroke and as part of the 4×50 medley relay team.
Dodd continued his academic and athletic career at UCLA, where he quickly became an integral part of the men’s water polo team as an attacker. In his freshman year (2021), he played in all 24 games, scoring 31 goals and earning three MPSF/KAP7 Newcomer of the Week awards. The following year (2022), he was third on the team in scoring with 39 goals across 27 games and was recognized as an ACWPC All-American (Honorable Mention) and Second Team All-MPSF. After taking 2023 off to train for the Olympic Games, he returned in 2024, playing in 22 games and contributing 26 goals and 33 assists, earning First Team ACWPC All-American and First Team All-MPSF honors, and being part of the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
Internationally, Chase Dodd has been a consistent member of the United States national team pipeline, participating in the U.S. Development, Cadet, Academy, and Youth teams. His senior national team career includes significant contributions at various international competitions. He tallied 13 goals at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, 17 goals at the 2022 FINA Intercontinental Cup in Lima, where he was named MVP of the gold medal match, and scored eight goals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, securing a gold medal. His career culminated in a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he scored three goals, further solidifying his standing as a top-tier water polo athlete. He is currently pursuing a major in environmental science.
