China Chen Aisen is an Olympic gold medalist diver from China, recognized for his achievements in both individual and synchronized platform events.
Named Male Diver of the Year by FINA in 2016 for his outstanding achievements, including two gold medals at the Rio Summer Olympics.
Chen Aisen was born on October 22, 1995, in Guangzhou, China. He began his diving career in primary school after being identified for his potential in the sport. By 2009, at just 14 years old, Chen had already secured a gold medal in the men’s 10m synchronized event at the East Asian Games, partnering with Zhang Yanquan. Throughout the following years, he consistently earned multiple medals in FINA Diving Grand Prix competitions, establishing himself as a significant talent in the international diving scene. He further demonstrated his early prowess by winning the 10m synchro event at the Asian Championships in 2014, again alongside Zhang.
Chen’s career reached its pinnacle at the Olympic Games. At the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, he delivered a remarkable performance, earning two gold medals. He won gold in the men’s synchronized 10m platform competition with his diving partner Lin Yue, achieving a score of 496.98. Following this, he secured another gold in the men’s individual 10m platform event with a score of 585.30. This individual victory marked China’s first Olympic gold in the men’s 10m platform since the 2004 Athens Games. His achievements in 2016 led to FINA naming him the Male Diver of the Year. In 2020, at the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, Chen, then partnered with Cao Yuan, earned a silver medal in the men’s synchronized 10m platform event.
His success also extends to the World Championships, where he has accumulated multiple gold and silver medals. In 2015, he won gold in the 10m synchro event at the World Championships in Kazan with Lin Yue, scoring 495.72. He continued his success in 2017, winning another 10m synchro gold with new partner Yang Hao in Budapest, where he also claimed a silver medal in the individual 10m platform. In 2019, he secured another World Championship gold in the 10m synchro event in Gwangju, this time partnered with Cao Yuan. He also achieved a notable milestone during the 2017 FINA Diving World Series, where he surpassed 600 points in a 10m platform final in Guangzhou, a rare feat in the sport.
