Born on August 27, 1983, in Taipei, Taiwan, Chen Bolin embarked on his acting career after gaining initial recognition on the Taiwanese variety show “Red Versus White.” His resemblance to Takeshi Kaneshiro garnered attention, leading him into the entertainment industry. He attended Jinwen University of Science and Technology. Chen’s debut in the film industry was marked by his leading role as Zhang Shi-Hao in the 2002 film “Blue Gate Crossing,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received positive reviews. This early success established him as a talented young actor in the Asia-Pacific region. His subsequent supporting roles in Hong Kong productions like “The Twins Effect II,” “A Chinese Tall Story,” and “Kung Fu Dunk” further expanded his reach beyond Taiwan, solidifying his presence in the broader Asian cinema landscape.
Chen Bolin’s career gained significant momentum in 2011. He earned a nomination for the Best Actor award at the Deauville Asian Film Festival for his work in the independent drama film “Buddha Mountain.” In the same year, he received the Golden Bell Award for Best Actor for his performance in the television drama “In Time with You.” This period marked a turning point in his career, establishing him as a prominent figure in Taiwanese entertainment. In 2012, Chen demonstrated his general knowledge by winning the NT$100,000 grand prize on the Taiwanese game show “All Pass,” based on “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?”. His answer to a literary question, recalling his reading of Ouyang Xiu, highlighted his varied interests. In 2013, he received the “Outstanding Performance” award at the Chinese Film Media Awards for his role in “Snowfall in Taipei.” The following year, he starred in “The Continent,” a road trip comedy directed by Han Han. In 2015, Chen signed with BM+ Entertainment, facilitating his entry into the Korean entertainment industry. That same year, he starred in “20 Once Again,” a Chinese remake of the Korean film “Miss Granny,” which set a box office record for Korean-Chinese co-produced films.
