Chloe Bennet was born Chloé Wang on April 18, 1992, in Chicago, Illinois. Her father is Han Chinese and her mother is Caucasian American. At the age of 15, Bennet relocated to China to pursue a singing career under her birth name, Chloe Wang. During her time in China, she resided with her paternal grandmother in Beijing and undertook studies in Mandarin. She released two singles, “Uh Oh” and “Every Day in Between,” in 2011. Following her music efforts, she moved to Los Angeles, California, to transition into an acting career. Her initial on-screen appearance was as a host for the TeenNick summer dance series, “The Nightlife.”
While seeking acting opportunities in Hollywood, she changed her professional name to “Chloe Bennet.” This decision was made after encountering difficulties securing roles with her original surname. According to Bennet, adopting her father’s first name as her last name helped mitigate challenges related to ethnic casting while still honoring her paternal heritage. From 2012 to 2013, she held a recurring supporting role as Hailey in the ABC drama series “Nashville.” In December 2012, Bennet was cast as a series regular on the ABC series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, which premiered on September 24, 2013.
