Best known for his race driving and track cycling success, Sir Christopher Hoy has represented Great Britain at the Olympics and World Championships, as well as participating in the commonwealth games for Scotland. He is the second most celebrated Olympic cyclist in history; being an eleven-time world champion and six time Olympic champion. Hoy is all too familiar with the colour gold, winning more gold medals than any other British athlete, along with Jason Kenny.
The transformation of cycling as a sport was heavily influenced by Hoy and his exceptional accomplishments. 2012 saw Hoy’s latest and best Olympic triumph yet when he inevitably took home the gold with fellow team mates Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes and of course, they set a brand new world record in the velodrome. When Hoy won gold in the Keirin, he simultaneously became the joint holder (along with Bradley Wiggins), of most medals won by any British athlete in the Olympic Games. Outstandingly, it was Hoy who led the team out at the opening ceremony as Great Britain’s flag carrier.
In 2013 Hoy announced that he would be retiring from competitive cycling after a career that exceeded his expectations, and created a global inspiration. Aside from his sporting achievements, just three months after his Olympic double gold victory, Hoy created the brand Hoy Bikes in 2012. The range includes road, city and track bikes, as well as children’s bikes.
